Pumsavan Sanskar is performed in the third or fourth month of pregnancy, preferably on a Shukla Paksha Pushya Nakshatra day, as per Hindu scriptures. It is conducted to ensure the healthy development of the fetus, protect the unborn child from negative influences, and seek divine blessings. The expectant mother, along with her husband and family, performs this ritual under the guidance of learned elders. The Grihya Sutras, Manusmriti, and Garbha Upanishad mention this sanskar as a significant prenatal ritual ensuring the well-being of both mother and child. The ceremony includes prayers to Lord Vishnu, offerings of ghee and herbs, and Vedic chants, symbolizing protection and strength for the unborn baby.

पुंसवन संस्कार हिंदू शास्त्रों के अनुसार गर्भावस्था के तीसरे या चौथे महीने में, विशेष रूप से शुक्ल पक्ष पुष्य नक्षत्र के दिन किया जाता है। यह संस्कार भ्रूण के स्वस्थ विकास को सुनिश्चित करने, अजन्मे शिशु को नकारात्मक प्रभावों से बचाने और ईश्वरीय आशीर्वाद प्राप्त करने के लिए किया जाता है। गर्भवती महिला अपने पति और परिवार के साथ, विद्वान आचार्यों या पुरोहित के मार्गदर्शन में इस अनुष्ठान को संपन्न करती है। गृह्य सूत्र, मनुस्मृति और गर्भ उपनिषद में इस संस्कार का उल्लेख गर्भवती माँ और शिशु के कल्याण के लिए एक महत्वपूर्ण अनुष्ठान के रूप में किया गया है। इस संस्कार में भगवान विष्णु की प्रार्थना, घी और औषधीय जड़ी-बूटियों का हवन, तथा वैदिक मंत्रोच्चार किए जाते हैं, जो अजन्मे शिशु की सुरक्षा और शक्ति का प्रतीक हैं।
